We are thrilled to announce that The StoreHouse has officially served 1 MILLION POUNDS of food to families in need across the DMV and South Carolina!
As the nation’s first Black-run food bank, this milestone is a testament to our unwavering commitment to serving nutrition with love. From the very first pound of food to this historic moment, our mission has been clear:
To nourish bodies, uplift spirits, and serve communities with compassion and dignity.
This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of our volunteers, the generosity of our donors, and the strength of our partners. Together, we have created 1 million moments of hope, healing, and love.
But we’re just getting started. The need is great, and with your support, The StoreHouse will continue to make a lasting impact, one family at a time.

The Federal Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act
The Bill Emerson Food Donation Act establishes Federal protection from civil and criminal liability for persons involved in the donation and distribution of food and grocery products to needy individuals when certain criteria are met. In order to receive protection under the Act, a person or gleaner must donate in good faith apparently wholesome food or apparently fit grocery products to a nonprofit organization for ultimate distribution to needy individuals. The Act also provides protection against civil and criminal liability to the nonprofit organizations that receive such donated items in good faith.
